New York City, USA
/2016
This is a specific partnering project made with Barry Rice Architects for a private competition. The site was located on the corner of Norfolk and Delancey streets in Manhattan. BlackTable designed a 90.000 sq feet space that included a proposal for 16 squash courts and complementary facilities, presenting competitive installations for the sport promotion in New York
The project represented a structural challenge, given the spatial conditions of a squash center, which need to have open -spaces without columns interfering with the courts. It was proposed Aa structural walls system was proposed, which are the same used to build the courts.
The space is clean and fluid and it is conceived in an open manner to be able to see the different games and activities. Large stairs and an elevated platform are located at the heart of the project, reinforcing the principle of visibility in the project. The rest of the project is done in a rational way, paying special attention to the image of the club. The materials, corten steel and smoothed concrete, are presented in a simple and elegant way.
